Tilbury Douglas Brings LEGO SPIKE STEM Workshops to Merthyr Primary Schools – A Hands-On Boost to STEM Learning

Tilbury Douglas has recently invested in LEGO Educational SPIKE Prime sets to deliver a series of engaging STEM workshops across primary schools in Merthyr Tydfil. These workshops are designed to spark curiosity and build essential skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics through hands-on learning.

Working in small collaborative groups, pupils have been exploring coding, robotics, and real-world problem-solving. The LEGO SPIKE sets provide a dynamic platform for students to build, test, and iterate solutions to exciting challenges, fostering creativity, experimentation, and critical thinking.

These workshops support key arears of learning such as Science and Technology, Expressive Arts, and Health and Well-being. They also contribute meaningfully to the development of the four purposes of the curriculum helping learners become:

  • Ambitious, capable learners who apply knowledge in practical contexts
  • Enterprising, creative contributors who solve problems and innovate
  • Ethical, informed citizens who understand the role of technology in society
  • Healthy, confident individuals who collaborate and communicate effectively

In addition, the programme supports Careers and Work-Related Experiences (CWRE) by introducing pupils to foundational skills in coding, engineering, and teamwork—skills that are increasingly vital in today’s digital and innovation-driven economy.

This initiative also reflects the Local Authority’s commitment to the RARS strategy (Raising Aspirations, Raising Standards), by delivering high-quality, engaging learning experiences that raise attainment and inspire future pathways.

Tilbury Douglas’s investment in STEM education is helping to build a generation of learners who are not only technically skilled but also curious, collaborative, and ready to shape the future.
